United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Mali spokesman William Spindler said on Tuesday that the humanitarian situation in Mali was critical and the assistance to the country was not enough.
Noting that nearly 400,000 refugees and migrants in and out of Mali were in need of aid, Spindler said that according to predictions of UNHCR, 112 million USD of fund was necessary in 2013, however, only 6.8 million USD of fund was created so far.
Saudi Arabia extended two million USD and Britain extended 4.8 million USD of this fund, he added.
Spindler told AA that most of the aid organizations could not reach the regions out of Bamako due to ongoing war between armed groups and Malian army backed by France in the north of the country.
Assistance could not be sent to refugees along Niger, Burkina Faso and Mauritania borders due to security problems, said Spindler.
Stressing the importance of helping Mali which was one of the poorest countries of the world, Spindler said that there was a drought danger in the country, and 5 million of 16 million people in the country were having difficulty in reaching food.Last Mod: 13 Şubat 2013, 11:31
