New questions are raised about the mental health of the 34 year-old mother who was shot dead by police after slamming into a White House barricade and ramming multiple police vehicles with her car while leading authorities on a chase that ended in a bloody shootout on Capitol Hill.

In an interview with American network ABC, Miriam’s mother, Idella, said that her daughter was suffering from postpartum depression following the birth of her daughter.

"A few months later, she got sick. She was depressed.... She was hospitalized," the senior Carey said.

Additionally, CNN reported that two medications were found by investigators in the junior Carey’s Stamford, Connecticut apartment to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

According to CBS, law enforcement officials in Miriam Carey’s native Connecticut have said that she was taken in for a mental health evaluation nearly a year ago after Carey told police that US President Barack Obama had her and her home under electronic surveillance, and described herself as a prophet.

The growing evidence that Miriam Carey was mentally unwell has led to further questions being raised over the use of lethal force in the Capitol confrontation.

She was not armed during Thursday’s car chase, though officials said she used her black Infiniti as a lethal weapon. She was shot multiple times after her car hopped a curb just East of the Capitol, and was later pronounced dead.

Her one-year old daughter was in the backseat with her throughout the ordeal.
