US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki on Monday said "We hope that the new Iranian government will engage substantively with the international community to reach a diplomatic solution" prior to nuclear talks with Iran at the 68th session of UN General Assembly.

"We hope that the new Iranian government will engage substantively with the international community to reach a diplomatic solution to Iran’s nuclear program and to cooperate fully with the IAEA in its investigation," Psaki said on Monday in a statement.

Psaki also said "We remain ready to work with Iran should the Rouhani administration choose to engage seriously."

"Secretary Kerry welcomes the Foreign Minister's commitment to a substantive response and to his agreement to meeting in the short term with permanent UN Security Council members and Germany coordinated by EU High Representative Ashton to discuss the nuclear program," Psaki added.

On Thursday, the foreign ministers of P5+1 countries — the five permanent Security Council members, Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States, plus, Germany — at the United Nations will discuss resuming talks over Iran's nuclear program.

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton is the top negotiator on Iran's nuclear program for the P5+1 countries which have been conducting negotiations with Iran on the nuclear dispute.
