The United States Senate on Tuesday approved Senator John Kerry as the next secretary of state. Senate voted 94-3 for Kerry's appointment as the chief of the State Department to replace Hillary R. Clinton.

Kerry has served as the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for the past four years.
