The US has hired the contracter known for providing security surveillance on the wall which divides Israel and the West Bank to also provide the same security along the US-Mexico border.

Elbit Systems won a $145 million contract to secure the border in southern Arizona for one year, but according to Bloomberg analyst Brian Friel, this could reach $1 billion if Congress approves reforms to expand the project.

The firm will erect observation towers fitted with sensors in addition to command and control centers.

Republican Senator John McCain welcomed the project, saying “Arizonans have been waiting more than a decade for the Department of Homeland Security to place the needed technology along our border to support the Border Patrol and fully secure our southern border.”

“If this technology is developed, integrated and fielded correctly, these Integrated Fixed Towers in southern Arizona, coupled with the tremendous work of the Border Patrol, will give our agents the ability to detect, evaluate, and respond to all illegal entries crossing our border," he added.
