11th Istanbul Biennial to start in Turkey's culture capital

The 11th International Istanbul Biennial will begin on September 12.

The festival will draw art lovers to the Turkish metropolis from September 12 to November 8.

The theme of this year's biennial is "What, How & for Whom (WHW)".

The biennial takes its title, "What Keeps Mankind Alive?" from a song from Bertolt Brecht's "The Threepenny Opera".

During the biennial, three venues, "Antrepo No 3", "Tutun Deposu" and "Ferikoy Greek School" will host 114 projects of 70 artists from 40 countries.

More than 3 thousand guests will converge to Istanbul to participate in the event.

The International Istanbul Biennial has been taking place since 1987 with the aim of creating a meeting point in Istanbul for artists and audience from diverse cultures. It is considered one of the most prestigious biennials alongside Venice, Sao Paolo and Sydney.
