A report recently released by a leading Turkish business association revealed that the number of foreign investors in the newly established companies in Istanbul increased by 2.4 percent during the first half of 2008, compared to the second half of 2007.
According to Istanbul Chamber of Commerce's (ITO) report on "foreign capital in Istanbul", 1,605 foreign investors established companies with a total capital amount of 267,195,560 YTL in Istanbul during January-June 2008 period (1 USD equals 1.19 YTL).
Foreign investors in newly established companies mainly showed interest in sectors such as consultancy services, electronics, IT industry and construction, the report said.
In terms of "foreign capital value", foreign investors preferred to operate in transportation, banking-insurance, iron-steel & metal goods, machinery and electronics & IT sectors, ITO's report added.
Istanbul received the highest number of foreign investors from Germany, followed by the Netherlands and Iran during the first 6 months of 2008.
ITO's report also revealed that the interest of investors from Asian and Far Eastern countries increased remarkably during such period.
Investors mainly came from Azerbaijan, India, Singapore and Malaysia, the report said.
