Many Palestinian students, studying at universities in abroad, are waiting for opening of Rafah crossing ahead of new school year. Some are at risk of loosing their scholarships.

23 humanitarian organizations from Egypt and other Arab states on Monday called on the Egyptian government to allow students stranded in the Gaza Strip to pass through the Rafah crossing in order to travel to their universities abroad, reported Ma'an News Agency.

Hundreds of Gazan students who study at universities in the Arab world and beyond have been trapped in the Gaza Strip since Israel imposed a blockade on the Strip in 2007. Dozens more have been stranded since they came home to visit their families for the summer holiday.

The human rights groups are calling on Egypt to allow students to travel through the Rafah crossing, which has also been closed since June 2007.
