The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) nominated Sabahattin Cakmakoglu, an MP from central Anatolian city of Kayseri, a candidate for president on Friday.
The petition on Cakmakoglu's candidacy was submitted to Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan by Cakmakoglu himself, MHP Secretary General Cihan Pacaci and some MPs from the party.
"We are running for the (presidential) election to show our presence in the parliament," Cakmakoglu said as he presented the petition.
On the other hand, Toptan recalled that those who want to run for the election should apply till midnight on Sunday (August 19th).
This is the second time Sabahattin Cakmakoglu is nominated a candidate for president by MHP. The first time was in 2000.
FM Abdullah Gul officially declared his candidacy for president from Justice & Development (AK) Party last Tuesday (August 14th).
