530 people have been taken into custody in May Day celebrations yesterday. Many people have been injured, Sabah said. 

The police attempted to disperse the rioters using water cannon and tear gas. Some illegal organization member leaking among the rioters threw the paving stones.

Police's attitude criticized

Non-governmental organizations have condemned extensive use of force by the police on May Day.

Police measures and harsh interventions against the ones who wanted to celebrate May Day at Taksim were criticized by non-governmental organizations.

The announcements called the governor and the police department chief to resignation. Istanbul bar council stated that the police used more extensive force against the rioters than their mission required.

May Day clashes cost $22 million to traders

The events on May Day celebrations yesterday made the tradesmen close their stores in Taksim and Şişli. The citizens emptied the streets and squares for fear of rallies and violence on May Day. The total loss of the tradesmen in Şişli, Taksim and Osmanbey where the rallies were planned to take place is around $22 million for one day.
