Six suspects were detained in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir for allegedly plotting an attack on Ahmet Guvener, spiritual leader of the church in the city, sources said on Wednesday.
Guvener informed the security forces earlier that he was constantly threatened following killing of three people in a publishing house in the neighboring city of Malatya.
Upon directives of the Chief Prosecutor's Office in Diyarbakir, the police launched a crackdown operation and detained six suspects for allegedly plotting an act against Guvener.
Earlier, Guvener said in an interview with the A.A, "some people show us as a target through some biased news reports. Our slain friends in Malatya complained about the same before the attack. I have been constantly threatened and asked to leave Diyarbakir. We were born here, and we like living in this country."
