624 civil servants gang members: Turk police report
Gangs started to hook on the civil servants to give the impression that "we are working for the good of the land".

The police announced seizure of 12,236 gang members in the last four years, Sabah reported.

According to Turkish police report, organized criminal gangs contacted the public officers and famous media people to make use of their influence.

According to the report of police department of trafficking and fight against organized crimes in 2007, 624 officers have been taken into custody for being connected to gangs.

The report said gangs started to get public officers involved in gang business since 1998.

The report said: "one of the characteristics distinguishing organized crime gangs from street gangs is that organized gangs want to contact the public officers related to their field and to make use of their powers. Fight against organized crimes can not be won only via one unit or one institution. Schools, parents, non-governmental organizations, media, universities and all society members should take on very important responsibilities as well as the security and justice bodies. Social structure of the country should be analyzed well in fight against organized crimes."
