Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Tuesday rejected as a "waste of time" talks with Israel that would lead to a "declaration of principles.
"In an interview with Voice of Palestine Radio, aired shortly before a scheduled meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert scheduled, Abbas insisted he prefers to negotiate the "framework" of final peace deal with the Israeli leader.
"We have had it in the past and there is no need to go back to it. It is a waste of time," Abbas said of a declaration of principles, adding he hoped to reach a framework agreement at the November conference.
He said he spoke to US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice Monday night but failed to get answers as to the conference's exact date, location and agenda.
Abbas reiterated that he would bring any agreement either before the Palestinian National Council (PNC), the highest decision making body in the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO), or call a referendum.
