A district governor was killed along with his three family members when a suicide bomber struck their vehicle in southern Afghani province of Kandahar on Friday.
Kandahar's Zherai district chief, Khairudding, and his three family members were killed in the attack, police told KUNA.
The bomber hit their vehicle as soon as the family emerged from their house in Zhera district Friday noon.
The district chief, his teenage daughter and two sons were killed on the spot, while the chief's bodyguards suffered injuries, said the police official who wished not to be named.
The bomber who struck their vehicle was on foot, witnesses said.
Another source said the bomber detonated himself as soon as the district chief opened the main gate of his house after responding to a knocking.
Roadside bombings and attacks on government and foreign troops are rampant in Kandahar's Zherai, Panjwayee and Shah Walikot districts.
