Hearings in a court case aimed at closing Turkey's ruling AK Party for alleged Islamist activities have been scheduled for early July, a court source, who declined to be named, said on Tuesday.

The Constitutional Court will hear evidence from the prosecutor on July 1 and an oral defence from the AK Party on July 3, the source at the court told Reuters.

The AK Party on Monday handed in its written defence in the case, which threatens months of political instability and has hurt Turkish financial markets.
