Albania says Turkey 'number one foreign trade partner'

Turkey-Albania Business Forum meeting took place in Tirana, Albania on Friday.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul, currently on a formal visit to the country, attended the meeting together with his Albanian counterpart Bamir Topi.

Minister of Economy, Trade & Energy Dritan Prifti, made the opening speech of the meeting, and said Turkey was "number one partner" in Albania's foreign trade.

"Bilateral trade volume has risen 10 percent in the past 10 years period," he noted.

Prifti said Turkey's Calik companies had important investments in Albania, indicating that Turkey could have more investments in Albania as economic growth of Albania was 5.3 percent annually.

Separately, the Albanian president described Turkish-Albanian relations as "excellent", noting that commercial relations with Ankara improved after restoration of democracy in Tirana in 1992.
