Around 1,000 Muslims rallied in the Bangladeshi capital following weekly prayers. The crowd chanted "Down with Israel" and "Stop killing Muslims," a witness said. In the Philippines, dozens of protesters burned mock American and Israeli flags in noisy demonstrations outside the countries' embassies, demanding an end to the Israeli offensive. "We demand that the war be stopped," said Indonesian Muhammad Ismail Yusanto, of the Hizbut Tahrir organization, which wants to introduce Islamic law in Indonesia. "Send the Indonesian army towage Islamic holy war against the Jews."
In Kuala Lumpur, Defense Forces Chief Mohamad Anwar Mohamad Nor was quoted by the Bernama news agency as saying Malaysia was making final preparations to deploy peacekeeping troops in southern Lebanon. Before adopting the resolution condemning the attacks, several Pakistani lawmakers criticized Israel. Qazi Hussain Ahmed, a hard-line lawmaker, paid tribute to Hizbollah militants for their resistance and attempts to "safeguard the sovereignty and integrity of Lebanon." Malaysia, Pakistan and Indonesia do not have diplomatic ties with Israel. All three have repeatedly condemned the attacks and called for a cease-fire since the crisis erupted following theJuly 12 kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah guerrillas.
