At least 3 killed in flash Greece floods

Flash floods killed three people in central Greece following heavy rainfall, which also disrupted traffic on sea and land across wide parts of the country, authorities said on Friday.

The prefecture of Magnesia declared a state of emergency, a civil protection official said.

Two farmers drowned there on Thursday after a torrent trapped them in their tractors. A third man in the same area was swept away by the waters and found dead at the bottom of a shaft.

Bad weather may also have led to the death of two immigrants whose boat capsized in the Aegean Sea off the coast of Leros early on Friday, a coastguard official said.

Many ferry schedules to the country's numerous islands were cancelled due to high winds. Heavy rain and snow fall in mountainous areas cut off some villages in the country's centre and north, civil protection said.
