At least five PKK members have been killed in clashes in south-east Turkey in two days of fighting with Turkish military forces, the Anadolu news agency reported on Thursday.
The clashes took place on and around Mt. Kato in the south-eastern province of Sirnak near the Turkish border with Iraq.
Backed by helicopter gunships, Turkish commandos were fighting around 40 rebels from the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) who were possibly trying to escape to bases in northern Iraq before the onset of winter, Anadolu reported.
An unnamed source said that the PKK rebels were in panic and that the PKK themselves believe 10 of their comrades had been killed in the fighting.
The PKK is considered a terrorist group by both the United States and the European Union.
