A convoy carrying Turkey's ambassador to Iraq was machine gunned Monday as it sped through western Baghdad, damaging some of vehicles but causing no injuries, the embassy said. Speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), an Interior Ministry source said the ambassador sustained minor injuries and two of the convoy's vehicles suffered a lot of damage. Physicians, added the source, said the ambassador was shot in the back and his condition was unstable. As the Turkish Embassy refused to comment on the incident, a source said the ambassador was in "good-shape" and no one else was injured. The convoy was carrying Ambassador Unal Cevikoz back to his office from the Um al-Qura mosques in Western Baghdad, said Haitham al-Zahawi, the ambassador's assistant. Cevikoz visited Sunni leader Harith al Dari in Um al-Qura mosque.
