Babacan visits Turkish battalion in Kosovo

Turkish Foreign Minister, Ali Babacan, paid a visit to the Turkish battalion serving as part of the Kosovo Force (KFOR) in Prizren on Wednesday.

Ali Babacan and an accompanying delegation of Turkish businessmen attended a luncheon hosted by Kosovo's Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning and chairman of the Kosovo Democratic Turkish Party (KDTP) Mahir Yagcilar on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters prior to the luncheon, Babacan said that Turkey pays high attention to both political and economic relations with Kosovo.

Kosovo has a special place in our hearts, Babacan said.

Babacan pointed out to the importance of Turks living in Kosovo for their contribution to bilateral relations.

It is important for the Turkish community to strengthen its existence in the political and democratic system of Kosovo, Babacan said.

The status KDTP has achieved should not be deteriorated, Babacan said.

Following the luncheon, Babacan took a city tour in Prizren where there is a large Turkish community.

Ali Babacan and his delegation will proceed to Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday night.

Babacan is set to meet his Bosnian counterpart Sven Alkalaj, members of the Presidential Council, parliament speaker in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
