Former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi plans to found a new party to be called the Freedom Party (Partito della Liberta), La Repubblica newspaper reported Wednesday.
The party aims to group the entire centre right under one umbrella party, the newspaper reported.
The party's name and logo have already been registered, and it will be led by Michela Brambilla, 39, from Berlusconi's Forza Italia party.
Observers say the aim of the party is to increase cooperation within the centre-right alliance and eventually retake power in Rome.
Current opposition leader Berlusconi heads a group of centre-right parties, including Forza Italia, the National Alliance (Alleanza Nazionale), the Northern League (Lega Nord) and the Christian Democrat UDC.
The alliance was called the House of Freedoms.
Media mogul Berlusconi lost the 2006 election to Romano Prodi, leader of the centre-left camp.
