Bosnian Serb PM charged for corruption, abuse of power

Bosnian Serb Prime Minister Milorad Dodik has been accused of embezzling almost EUR74 million of public funds, media reports said Friday.

The Bosnian State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) raised criminal charges against the prime minister of Bosnia's Serb Republic, Milorad Dodik, and several other ministers "several criminal acts of organized crime, money laundering and abuse of power", local media reported Thursday.

A police report alleges Dodik diverted the funds meant to be used for the construction of a new regional government headquarters.

A federal police spokesman refused to confirm the report's existence, but said his office would make a statement by the end of the day or within the next few days.

Government officials moved into the new building at the end of 2007 after the cost of its construction rose to as much as EUR100 million - well above the estimated EUR17 million at the start of the project.
