Buddhist monk in Britain killed by own lawnmower

A leading Buddhist monk in Britain was killed when a ride-on lawnmower rolled over him while he was cutting the grass, reports said Thursday.

Gyosei Handa, 50, from Japan was cutting the grass at the Nippon zan Miohoji Buddhist temple near the city of Milton Keynes when he fell off the machine and it rolled over him.

He died in hospital of his injuries.

The monk was a well-known peace activist who opposed nuclear weapons and other armaments.

The temple built in 1980 houses the first Buddhist peace pagoda built in the West.
