Bulgarian parliament okays Burgas-Vlora oil pipeline
The Bulgarian lawmakers ratified on the second reading on Thursday the plans to build an oil pipeline linking its Black Sea port of Burgas with Vlora on Albania's Adriatic Sea coast, Sofia news agency reported.

The decision was made just one day after the approval of another huge energy deal to build the oil pipeline between Burgas and Alexandroupolis in Greece.

The Burgas-Vlora pipeline is 870 km long and will pass Bulgaria, Macedonia and Albania.

According to the agency, the Burgas-Vlora pipeline, just like the Burgas-Alexandroupolis pipeline, seeks to bypass the congested Bosphorus straits.

However, experts forecast that the Burgas-Vlora pipeline will hardly get enough traffic through it to make it profitable, due to the lack of Russia's involvement, unlike the Burgas-Alexandroupolis pipeline.

Both pipelines have an initial annual transit capacity of 35 million tons of crude, but Burgas-Alexandroupolis can be expanded to 50 million tons, said the agency.
