"The bomb-laden vehicle was discovered at a multi-storey carpark in Ankara by sniffer dogs. Experts are investigating the vehicle with a fake license plate," Ankara Governor Kemal Onal said on Tuesday.
Onal told reporters, "our security forces have taken tight security measures throughout Ankara since September 11th and 12th are particularly sensitive days. During yesterday's searches, security forces found a van packed with explosives near the Kurtulus multi-storey carpark with the help of sniffer dogs."
"Security measures have been tightened in and around the carpark. Bomb disposal experts are working. There is nothing to worry about for the time being. A possible disaster was prevented due to the police efforts. For us, safety of our citizens is more important than anything," he said.
"It is too early to say who was behind this but the bomb was big and I do not want to think about what might have happened if it had gone off," he said.
Onal added that neighboring houses and business places were evacuated and roads around the carpark were closed to the traffic.
