Chambers Unions to meet in Turkish city

The chambers of commerce and industry of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member states will meet in the Turkish city of Istanbul on December 24, a Turkish union said on Tuesday.

Rifat Hisarciklioglu, the chairman of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), will host the 13th Executive Committee Meeting and 10th General Assembly Meeting of ECO Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ECO CCI).

Representatives of Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan are expected to participate in the meeting at the TOBB Plaza in Istanbul.

An international regional organization, ECO was established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey for the purpose of promoting economic, technical and cultural cooperation among the Member States.

In 1992, the Organization was expanded to include seven new members, namely Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Over the past 12 years the member states have been collaborating to accelerate the pace of regional development through their common endeavors. Besides shared cultural and historic affinities, they have been able to use the existing infrastructural and business links to further fortify their resolve to transfer their hopes and aspirations into a tangible reality.

ECO has embarked on several projects in priority sectors of its cooperation including energy, trade, transportation, agriculture and drug control.
