CHP not to join general assembly
The Republican People's Party (CHP) will not think it is necessary to join the general assembly meeting in which vote for president will be held, Mustafa Ozyurek, the deputy chairman of the party, said on Tuesday.

"We have decided that meeting Abdullah Gul, who has been nominated as a candidate for the president by unilateral imposition of the AK Party (Justice & Development Party), will be no use," Ozyurek told reporters after the Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting of CHP.

"Many remarks and statements of Mr. Abdullah Gul, who is coming from the National Vision tradition, have clearly showed that he does not concur with fundamental values of the Republic," Ozyurek said when he read out the decisions of the CHP MYK.

The statement of CHP claimed, "in case Gul is elected the president, the process to turn Turkey into a state of religion with its culture, economy, media and life style will be speeded up".
