Criticizing Israeli method is not anti-Semitic act, says Turkish PM

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that he criticized the method which was used in a concrete incident (military operation on Gaza), not Jews or Israeli people.

Delivering a speech in Istanbul, Erdogan said everyone has watched what happened in Gaza for three weeks.

"We are not blaming Israel, Israeli people and Jews. We criticize the method which was used in a concrete incident (military operation on Gaza). We criticize the step taken by the government which caused killings of hundreds of innocent people," he said.

"We are against anti-Semitism. But we also think that every criticism against Israel is not an anti-Semitic act. The people living in the Middle East are tired of war, tension, bloodshed and tear. Everyone should contribute to the peace process. Everyone should be in favor of peace. Turkey is in favor of peace," Erdogan said.

He also said that Turkey was a country that aimed at restoring peace not only in its region but also in the world.

"Turkey is a country which is acting with the goal of restoring peace not only in its region, but also in the world. We will not allow anyone to try to put Turkey in a different category," Erdogan said.

In regard to tension that happened in Davos of Switzerland, Erdogan said he attended the meetings there as the prime minister of Turkey, and not only the ruling party but also the opposition and all institutions of Turkey had the mission of protecting esteem of Turkey.

Meanwhile thanking Abbas for his phone call, Erdogan said that "we are not on the side of the strong but rather the right and victimized groups".

Each Palestinian victimized is the same for me, Erdogan said. "There could not be any distinction".
