Croatia and Albania intend to sign a memorandum of understanding for the construction of a nuclear reactor to produce electricity along Albanian's Lake Skadar, close to its borders with Montenegro, reported KUNA news agency.

Croatian media quoted an Economy Ministry press release as saying that the two countries prime ministers would be signing the memo later this month, adding that this would be the beginning of measures to construct the nuclear facility, at a cost of four billion euro.

It added that nuclear energy experts from the two countries would be meeting soon to conduct the necessary studies for this mega project, which would be accommodating a large portion of the electricity requirements of the two sides.

The facility will produce 1,500 megawatts of electricity.

Montenegro had expressed its concern over the environmental threat such a project may pose.

My Albanian friends, be afraid. Be very afraid. The iea of their being a good reliaable source of electricity is fine. Bt wt the rampaant corruption in Albania, the risk of short cuts being taken in an construction project is too huge to be ignored.
When the building of a new road can take years due to companies and government officials siphoning off cash, what chance this not happening with a nuclear power station? Not a hope.
