Iraqiprosecutors demanded the death penalty for Ali Hassan al-Majeed, Saddam'scousin known as Chemical Ali for his alleged use of chemical weapons.

Chief prosecutor Munkith al-Faroon demanded the death penalty for all of thedefendants except for Taher al-Ani whom they requested be aquitted due to lackof evidence.

Ali Hassan al-Majeed, nicknamed "Chemical Ali" and five otherformer senior Baath party officials are on trial for their role in the 1988Anfal campaign.

All six defendants were charged with war crimes and crimes against humanitywhile Majeed also faces the more serious charge of genocide.

Majeed admitted during the trial that he ordered troops to execute all Kurdswho ignored orders to leave their villages.

Other defendants claimed that the Anfal campaign had legitimate militarytargets including Kurdish militia who cooperated with Iran during thewar between 1980-88.
