Earthquake jolts Kashmir, no casualties reported

An earthquake jolted parts of Pakistani and Indian-occupied Kashmir on Friday but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, according to Pakistani officials, though the quake was felt in the capital Islamabad.

The U.S. Geological Survey measured the tremor at 5.4 magnitude and put the epicentre 51 miles (82-km) west of Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian-occupied Kashmir.

Pakistan's meteorological department gave a reading of 5.8 magnitude, Director General Qamar-uz-Zaman Chaudhry said.

In 2005, a 7.6 earthquake killed 75,000 people, mostly in northern Pakistan and Pakistani Kashmir, but some in occupied Kashmir too.
