An earthquake registering a magnitude 5.4 on the Richter scale shook southeast Turkey on Sunday, with no casualties reported, Turkey's Kandilli seismology centre said.
The quake happened at 1:05 am local time (2205 GMT Saturday) in the province of Bingol, not far from the town of Karliova, the Istanbul-based centre said.
Earthquakes frequently strike Turkey sometimes with disastrous results. Two earthquakes killed 20,000 people in August and November 1999 in the industrial northwest.
