The fair will be scene of a number of activities under the ongoing "Japanese Year" events in Turkey in 2010.

East Mediterranean Tourism Fair opens in Turkey

Turkish Culture & Tourism Minister Ertugrul Gunay said on Thursday that peace in the country and the world was the initial condition of boost in tourism.

Gunay, who attended the opening ceremony of the 24th East Mediterranean Tourism and Travel Exhibition (EMITT), said improvement in Turkey's tourism potential contributed to the broad participation to the fair.

Gunay said tourism not only ensured economic development but at the same time was a more important source for Turkey than textiles and automotive sector.

Turkish tourism minister said Turkey attached a high importance to congress tourism noting that Halic and Istanbul congress centers were opened and new congress centers would be opened in Turkey.

Gunay said East Mediterranean would be the biggest tourism destination of the world with its history, natural beauties, as well as archeological riches.

The fair will be scene of a number of activities under the ongoing "Japanese Year" events in Turkey in 2010.

This year's trade show will bring together 3 thousand exhibitors from 46 countries. Some 100 thousand people are expected to visit the fair.
