Egypt arrests 40 Muslim Brotherhood members

Egypt arrested 40 young members of the opposition Muslim Brotherhood in a dawn raid on a holiday camp north of Cairo Saturday, sources from the security services and the group itself said.

The 40 youths were arrested in the seaside resort of Baltym on the Nile Delta and charged with "relaunching the activity of a banned organization," a security source told AFP on condition of anonymity.

Egypt's security services have made numerous such arrests in recent months, including 21 people detained at another coastal resort, Marsa Matrouh in the north of the country.

Another 14 members of the group were arrested August 4 in a raid on a summer camp in Cairo.

Muslim Brotherhood MP Mohsen Radi denounced the latest wave of arrests, noting on the group's Web site that it is "as if the Muslim Brotherhood is banned from going to summer resorts."

The group organizes camps in the summer where young members take part in sport and other activities.

The Muslim Brotherhood has more than a fifth of the seats in Egypt's parliament, but its representatives sit as independents.
