Egypt's Mubarak not to attend Arab summit in Syrian capital

Egypt will send foreign minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit to the Arab summit scheduled in Syria on March 29, diplomacic sources said Tuesday.

Earlier, Abul-Gheit said that Egypt's level of representation had not been decided, but diplomatic sources said the foreign minister would be the representative.

Egypt and Saudi Arabia have accused Syria of hindering the process of electing a new Lebanese president.

Lebanon's political crisis has already damaged relations with Saudi, which plans to send an ambassador as its representative to the summit.
