Erdogan: 'Political stability more important than ever'
Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan praised Turkey's economic success in his speech on Tuesday.

He said that Turkey has been growing for 24 consecutive quarters, adding that it achieved this despite economic, political and other global difficulties.

"Turkey has experienced such a growth for the first time. This is an indicator of how resistant and robust Turkish economy is," Erdogan told his Justice & Development (AK) Party's parliamentary group meeting.

He underscored that political stability and confidence are more important than ever to maintain economic growth.

"Everybody must understand this and assumes his/her responsibility," Erdogan stated.

He said Turkey's economic growth was partly affected by international turbulences and election period (in the country), underlining that this performance should not be underestimated.

"Turkey's national income reached 856.3 billion USD in 2007, that means we have exceeded the 500 billion USD threshold. This is important. Turkey has now been a first division team," Erdogan said, referring to soccer jargon.

Erdogan also spoke about Monday's voting in Paris to choose the city to host EXPO 2015. Turkish city of Izmir's rival Italy's Milan was chosen to host the event in the voting of International Bureau of Exhibitions (BIE) delegates.

"Unfortunately, we could not hear good news from Paris yesterday. Milan, which hosted the event once, won the competition again for Italy which hosted the event for 6 times in the past. So, they (BIE delegates) granted the right to Italy for the 7th time. You know what I mean," Erdogan said.
