Eroglu promises work with Turkey for Cyprus talks if president

Turkish Cypriot Premier, Dervis Eroglu who is running for president of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said he aimed at winning the election in the first round, with a landslide victory.

Nationalist Union Party (UNP) Leader Eroglu who was officially nominated by his party on Wednesday, said he was ready to meet with Greek Cypriot Leader Demetris Christofias anywhere he wanted, immediately after his victory.

"During this meeting, I will tell him that I am sincerely ready to carry the process ahead, and play our part to reach a settlement based on established facts," said Eroglu.

He said the Greek Cypriot Administration was desperately struggling to smear him and support his rivals, noting however that it was the Turkish Cypriot people's call and not theirs.

In case he won the elections, Eroglu promised to run the Cyprus settlement talks in collaboration with the government, at a special platform to be established by the Parliament, a team made up of diplomats, scholars and business representatives.

Eroglu said he would not take the election lightly because he was well ahead, promising to campaign really hard to win the elections.

"Winning a land slide victory will be the strongest answer to our neighbours in the south and those who fail to understand what kind of a settlement, the Turkish Cypriots really want," said Eroglu asked like minded political parties and citizens to back him.

Eroglu also promised to run the settlement talks in close cooperation with officials of mainland Turkey.
