Representatives of the mainstream Palestinian organizations Fatah and Hamas hammered out an agreement early on Sunday to stop bloodshedding between the two groups, local radio stations reported.
The agreement was reached following marathon efforts that also involved a team of Egyptian security officials.
The two sides agreed on a cease-fire in the border town of Rafah, withdrawal of the gunmen from public places, streets and rooftops as well as removing checkpoints manned by gunmen of the two warring groups.
They also agreed that a previously-formed netural panel would conduct investigations to pin point the side responsible for the latest upsurge of violence.
