Fatah-Hamas not have luxury to fight each other: Turkish minister
"Our Palestinian brothers, whether they are members of Fatah or Hamas, do not have the luxury to fight each other," said a Turkish state minister.
A Turkish state minister said late on Friday today was the day we have to unite.
Turkey's State Minister Egemen Bagis said "Our Palestinian brothers, whether they are members of Fatah or Hamas, do not have the luxury to fight each other. Today is the day we have to unite," Bagis said.
He also said that Turkey was doing its best to ensure an urgent cease-fire in Gaza, which was under Israeli attacks.
"A huge human tragedy is being experienced in Gaza," Bagis, who is also Turkey's new chief negotiator for European Union (EU) talks, said during a meeting of a Moroccan political party meeting in Rabat.
Bagis expressed Turkey's sorrow over the human tragedy in Gaza, and said that Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and he visited Syria, Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia in the first days of 2009 to contribute to efforts for peace.
Erdogan also had telephone conversations with world leaders, and Turkey was doing its best to ensure an urgent cease-fire, Bagis said.
The state minister said Turkey wished that humanitarian aid would be conveyed to the region as soon as possible.
More than 700 people have been killed and around 3,000 others were injured since the beginning of Israeli offensive against Gaza on December 27, 2008.
