"We have submitted a proposal asking the parliament to hold rounds of the presidential election on May 6th, 9th, 12th and 15th," Salih Kapusuz, deputy chairman of the ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party, said on Wednesday.

"We have submitted a proposal asking the parliament to hold rounds of the presidential election on May 6th, 9th, 12th and 15th," Salih Kapusuz, deputy chairman of the ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party, said on Wednesday.

Kapusuz told reporters that the Parliamentary Consultative Board could not convene since the Republican People's Party (CHP) failed to attend the meeting.

"Our proposal includes a request that constitutional amendment bill regarding the eligibility age and the motion on anticipating parliamentary elections should be debated by the Constitution Committee within 48 hours," he said.

The parliament is actually debating AK Party's proposal.

On the other hand Kapusuz said: "we will submit another constitutional amendment to the Parliament later in the day to allow voters to elect the president by universal vote, to fix president's term in office as 5+5 (years) and to hold parliamentary elections once every four years."

First round on 6 May

The parliamentary general assembly has OK'd the ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party's proposal about parliamentary agenda on Wednesday.

Accordingly, the Parliamentary Constitution Committee will debate the constitutional amendment bill regarding the eligibility age and the motion on anticipating parliamentary elections within 48 hours.

On the other hand, the first round of presidential election will be held on May 6th.

If the quorum of 367 cannot be reached in the first round, the round will be repeated on May 9th.
