Forest fire, which broke out on Monday in the southern province of Mersin and killed two people, was taken under control, Turkish officials said on Wednesday.
Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen, who is currently in disaster area, said that 10 square kilometers of forested land was destroyed, which was a major disaster in global scale.
He also pledged financial assistance to those whose houses and animals were perished in the fire.
More than 500 firefighters had been combatting blazes with more than 100 water trucks, 20 bulldozers and 4 helicopters since Monday, Mersin Deputy Governor Ahmet Soley said.
He said 65 houses were completely burned, and 9 villages had been evacuated.
