Four Uighurs say to appeal China sentence for alleged syringe attacks
China sentenced four Uighur men on Thursday to between eight and 15 years in prison for using a syringe to stab a woman in the neck in the ethnically divided city of Urumqi in Uighur region.

The Urumqi People's Intermediate Court found the four guilty of planning a needle attack against a Han woman in an underground passageway in the city.

The men, who appeared close to tears, protested their innocence and said they would appeal.

Urumqi was rent by reports of syringe or needle attacks in early September, leading tens of thousands of Han Chinese riot.

The needle scare came two months after 197 people in East Turkistan died during police crackdown in Urumqi.
