Freed German mountaineers arrive in Turkish capital

German Ambassador to Turkey Eckart Kuntz welcomed mountaineers at Ankara's Esenboga Airport and expressed his pleasure over their release.

Freed German mountaineers arrive in Turkish capital
Three German mountaineers, who had been abducted and later released by PKK militants in eastern Turkey, arrived in capital Ankara on Monday.

German Ambassador to Turkey Eckart Kuntz welcomed mountaineers at Ankara's Esenboga Airport and expressed his pleasure over their release.

Kuntz said he was glad that Turkey and Germany had sound friendly ties and cooperation.

German foreign minister thanked Sunday Turkish security forces for their efforts to save the three German mountaineers.

Steinmeier also said that he talked to Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan on the phone and asked him to thank Turkish security forces who displayed intense efforts for the release of German mountaineers.

The governor of an eastern province of Turkey said on Sunday that PKK militants, who could not stand against the tight measures taken by Turkish security forces, had to release the three German mountaineers

PKK militants abducted three German mountaineers on July 8th, 2008 on Mount Agri in eastern Turkey.
