The ambassador of France hosted a reception in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Tuesday.

French Ambassador to Turkey Bernard Emie hosted a reception in the Embassy building for the French Presidency of the European Union (EU) is about to end.

France will hand over the EU presidency to Czech Republic as of January 1, 2009.

"The French presidency has contributed to rapprochement of France and Turkey, which may not be in such a dialogue before," Emie said during the reception.

Emie said that the EU opened full membership negotiations with Turkey on two new chapters last Friday.

The French ambassador said 2009 would be a year of goals, and he had no doubts that there would be a year of Europe in Turkey.

Emie said that there would be a Turkish year in France, and thus the two countries would have the opportunity to meet and voice their friendship more often.
