French workers seize managers over job cuts

Two managers from a furniture company near Paris were held overnight in the latest incident of "bossnapping" by workers protesting about planned job cuts, union representatives said on Tuesday.

The executives from Pier Import were detained following a meeting with workers over severance terms offered after the company went into receivership.

"It's unfortunate to get to this point but it's the only way we've found," Fabrice Menard, a representative of the CGT union told France Info radio.

"Unfortunately we're reduced to doing this kind of thing. It's deplorable in the society we have at the moment but what else can we do?" he said.
