"Our primary goal, as Turkish Armed Forces, is to manufacture our own weapons in our factories in collaboration with our research and development teams and universities and with the facilities provided by our national industry," said Chief of General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit.
He added that Turkey is eager to become an exporter of military vehicles.
Taking the floor at the flag-hoisting and launching ceremony held at the Istanbul Naval Yard for two mine sweepers and a mosquito boat on Monday, Gen. Buyukanit emphasized that Turkey had interests in all three seas surrounding the country.
"The increasing efforts of all countries in the world to seek interests and claim rights in the seas, and the geostrategic and geopolitical significance of our country deems necessary a well trained, modern naval force with a strong fire power that is always on call. We take pride in the level of, infrastructure, combat ability, and sophistication in ship building engineering and craftsmanship that our Naval yards reached," said Gen. Buyukanit.
Following the speeches Gen Buyukanit and his wife launched the mine sweeper "Anamur". Later, flags were hoisted to a minesweeper and a mosquito boat.
Commander of Turkish Air Forces Gen. Aydogan Babaoglu, Commander of Gendarmerie Isik Kosaner, Governor of Istanbul Muammer Guler and Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Kadir Topbas also attended the ceremony.
