Google is to remove Nazi propaganda films from YouTube, following a series of complaints in Germany, a company spokesman said Tuesday.

The complaints came from jugendschutz.net, a state-run watchdog that monitors the internet.

"YouTube is a US concern, but we are working with the state authorities in Germany on this," Google Germany spokesman Kay Oberbeck told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.

Google is providing the IP addresses of users to the police on request.

The clips relate in particular to extremist group Landser, which was banned in Germany for the content of its music in March 2005. The band's lyrics can be accessed simply by keying "Landser" into the search box on the YouTube.com website.

Pictures of Hitler, swastikas and SS runes are shown, along with lines extolling the virtues of the SS and promoting racist and anti-Semitic ideas.

The notorious Nazi propaganda film "Jud Suess" (Jew Suess) could also be found on YouTube until recently.

Thomas Guenter of jugendschutz.net said he had repeatedly pointed out the content of the films to YouTube.

"At our last check, only a third of the films had been removed," he said.

On Tuesday evening, the Landser lyrics remained available.
