Greece is considering imposing extra austerity measures suggested by the European Union to restore credibility with investors and escape its fiscal crisis, Prime Minister George Papandreou said on Friday.
"There needs to be an assessment to see what needs to be done before we take a decision (on additional measures)," he told Greek reporters during a visit to London.
He made clear Athens might need financial assistance from the EU as well as the political backing it has received.
"We are asking for political support from the European Union and, if needed, economic support," Papandreou said.
