Greek Cyprus makes two more arrests in media boss murder

Greek Cypriot police made two arrests on Thursday in connection with the murder of a powerful media boss which had sent shockwaves through the Mediterranean island.

Publisher Andis Hadjicostis, 42, was gunned down outside his home in the capital Nicosia on Jan 11. Three people are already in custody for questioning in what police suspect was a contract killing.

Two more individuals were arrested on Thursday night, police and the island's acting juctice minister said, without providing details. By law, they have to be taken before a magistrate within the next 24 hours where police can request a remand order for further detention.

The murder of Hadjicostis had shocked Greek Cyprus, where criminal activity targeting media figures is virtually non-existent.

Hadjicostis was CEO of the powerful Dias Media Group, one of the largest and most influential on the Mediterranean island.
